SHATTERED - Karl Jones
Tears of Crimson is very excited to debut the video trailer for the book
Shattered by Karl Jones. We were excited to get a chance to lure the
creator of the video SJ Byrne's and author Karl Jones into the Tears of
Crimson Lair for an interview. Pull up a bar stool and let's delve into
the minds of these incredible entertainers.
TOC: We were fortunate enough to see this video pre-production and have to ask how you came up with such a brilliant idea?
SJ: Of course the story line is ALL Karl. I basically just asked him the gist of the book (as I don't read/watch horror) and when we came up with a solid foundation for what her wanted, I began searching for footage.
Karl: I can't take any credit for the video, I just gave SJ an insight into what happens in the book, especially where it starts, and she came up with the concept. It's come out like a horror movie, on the lines of Halloween and similar movies, which I think really fits with the way the girls in the book are murdered
TOC: Tell us more about Shattered, Karl. What can readers expect when they delve inside your book?
Karl: Readers can expect gore, and violence, and some tremendously brutal murders. There are one or two comic relief moments in the book as well to lighten the mood, and some characters I hope everyone will love and want to see more of. There's also a bit of a disturbing insight into the mind of a murderer, I was a little worried by how easily I slipped into it.
TOC: SJ, how did you create such a chilling trailer, and how do you feel about the final product?
SJ: Honestly, I do not know! lol Thanks to YOU Michelle for the really gritty photos/video, it all pulled together. This piece really was meant to come together in just this fashion. I say this because I loaded all the photos into the program first, editing and adding text as I went. The last thing to go in was the music. We had two pieces we liked (Karl and I) and I played each one simultaneously alongside the video to see which would look best, before purchasing the tracks. There was NO competition between the two once that happened. I loaded the music in and something miraculous happened - I only had to make TWO timing corrections. The music, beat, and tempo changes fit the photos and timing to perfection! I couldn't have done it better if I had meant for it to happen that way!!!!
TOC: I have to admit, the video really made me want to read the book and at the same time gave me a shiver. How do you think readers and viewers will react to both?
SJ: I think people who like this genre are gonna LOVE it! I got the creeps watching the thing and I put it together! lol I think it's a really freaky piece of art that will fully support the work of Karl Jones.
Karl: I'm hoping that people who see the video will want to grab the book and find out for themselves what is going on in Greenville. And when they read the book I hope they do so right before going to bed, just so they can be kept awake by the my disturbing thoughts, just as I am. Lol
TOC: Where did you come up with the victim?
SJ: The victim is none other than (can't remember her name! lol) the daughter of a fabulous author -ahem LOL I wanted to surprise Karl with some really shocking photos, if they worked out. So he knew we were getting shots for the MISSING poster and a running video to match what happens in the book. But he had NO clue about the dead body until he saw the trailer for the first time.
Karl: The victim was easy, after you gave me the idea for doing this video I mentioned finding an image of a teenage girl for the wanted poster and you suggested your daughter. An idea that has proved a great one, your daughter has done a wonderful job in her debut.
TOC: SJ are you currently accepting other books for trailers? And how do authors find you?
SJ: I love putting trailers together for authors - however, having said that, I do not believe I will do another horror one. This one gave me nightmares the night we collaborated on ideas! Karl: In addition to my novel, Shattered, I have also released a sci-fi novella A Brother's Debt and two horror thriller shorts, Right Dress, Wrong Girl and The Night Guy. At present I am working on several other shorts, and I have plans for follow-ups to both Shattered and ABD, not to mention numerous other shorts and novels I hope to get around to writing in the near future.
