My new historical romance is getting some passionate reviews on Amazon and I wanted to address some key topics. First, Defying the Sheikh is a work of fiction that takes place in the 1800's. What's really important to understand here is that women during this era had many less choices than we do today.
Second, Michaela chose her path which may or may not be the one I would had chosen given the same situation. Who's to say how any of us would have reacted in the 1800's when women were little more than property according to the law. Again, refer to topic one, this is fiction.
I've read all the reviews, and while I'm flattered to see all the opinions, I must say that the reviews aren't truly about the book itself. I've opened up my blog here for discussion in hopes of getting reviews turned back to the book and not the subject matter.
I was aware when I published this book it would cause varying degrees of emotions form women. Personally I'm encouraged to see so many comments about how women should never be treated in such a way. This is why we should all be thankful for the pioneers of Women's Rights for giving us such freedom to voice our opinions today.
In a final note, I would like to say that Defying the Sheikh, was born of fantasy and I stand behind the characters in this book. While Armon may not be your view of a "Knight in Shining Armor", for Michaela she was empowered when she took over the Harem.
