Orphaned as a child, Vivienne Reinhold has no clue how she came to be raised by the twelve monks who reside in the Mountain Monastery of Velia. She has spent her entire life cooped up, being trained and taught by the seemingly paranoid monks who will share no knowledge of her past with her as they prepare her for a future only they have seen. Her coming of age is right around the corner, and she has big plans to get out and see what the world has to offer, but those plans are quickly foiled when a premonition of imminent danger to her village thrusts her out of her home and onto a journey of self discovery that she could have never been prepared for.
She is guided to her new home by the mysterious Rowan, who was sent to collect her and bring her safely to her destination. His brusque manner does little to squelch the inexplicable draw she feels toward him, and it is obvious that he too feels the spark that ignited when their hands first touched-- so why is he trying so hard to keep his distance? His past is filled with secrets and strife, and he has scars both visible and unseen that threaten to keep them apart.
Things only prove to get more complicated as they scramble to prepare an unlikely group of novices to fight on the side of the light and a new threat comes into play. Vivienne must use every bit of training she has ever learned - as well as some new found powers- to help fight against the darkness that threatens them.

About the Author
Violet is a 25 year old novelist from a small farm in West Virginia. She is the mother of two wonderful kids and the wife of a man with the patience of a saint. She can often be found with her nose in a book, and if that's not the case she is likely plotting one of her own.
