Mothers Day 2012

There were two ladies that influenced me growing up, my wonderful mom and granny.  This picture takes me back to a happier time and place in my life.  Granny left us, but her memory will always live on.  This Mother's Day remember that we're not always promised tomorrow, so tell those that you love just how much you care for them before it's too late.  When you look back ten or twenty years from now, it's memories like these that will stand out the most.  Not the great job, or the horrible one but people that influenced you and encouraged you to be better than you thought you could be.

Mom, I hope you know how much I love you and appreciate all the sacrifices you made for me over the years.  I didn't always appreciate the things you did then, but I do now.  Amazing how each year that goes by you understand more clearly how those people in your life that love you, only want the best for you.  I know if Granny were here today she'd tell us both I told you so.

No matter what has happened in your life, remember that your mother gave you life.  Take this one special day during the year and tell her how thankful you are.  If life has pulled you away from your mom, make the effort this Mother's Day to bridge the gap.  You only have one mother, and time is not always willing for you to wake up and realize that.

I dedicated this blog post to my beautiful mother Susan Hall!  Thank you for everything you've done for me over the years.  I've definitely been stubborn, headstrong, bullheaded, selfish and a pain in the tush more times then I care to admit over the years, but you never lost hope in me.  Not many people in my life can I say that about!  I love you MOM!

Mother's Day is May 13,2012

Feminisim SUCKS! Yeah I said It!

Okay so I've got your attention and I just had to say it!  If you've read my books (and if you haven't well shame on you) then you know that I like strong male characters and women completely overcome by the strength of the man.  There is something just compelling about a woman being so overcome by feelings of desire and a male who has a strong set of shoulders that she can lay all her worries upon.  There's a huge difference between a man who wants to love and protect and a jerk that only knows how to bully though, let me explain.

While I enjoy men with strong alpha-male tendencies there is a line that should never be crossed, at least in my opinion.  An incredible man has strength, not only in body but in mind as well.  When his true desire is to love, honor and protect the woman he adores, that to me makes him a hero.  It might sound old-fashioned, and maybe my views are outdated, but the truth is that's what I find absolutely compelling.

Now do I think a women should be sitting home bare-foot and pregnant waiting on her man to get home?  No way!  Women have brilliant minds and the ability to do anything they set their mind to.  At the same time though I like the idea of looking like a lady and pleasing my man with the small things that let him know just how much I cherish him.  The wonderful thing today is you can still be a woman and be treated like a Queen in his arms.

So back to the title of my post, Feminism sucks.  I like being my gender and don't plan on hiding it to pretend I'm a man.  First I don't have to, and second why in the world would I want to?  Granted I'm not wearing designer dresses on the lake or during baseball practices, but when it comes to pleasing my man you can darn sure bet I'm going to look my best.  I expect the same from him.  When we have our special nights, with five kids those are rare indeed, I want him looking his best and taking the time to make sure he's pleasing to my eyes as well.

The way I see things, I'm not a woman trying to live in a man's world.  I'm a woman who's happy being who I am and the world is at my feet without pretending to be something I'm not.  So that's just my whole two cents on Feminism... take it with a grain of salt.  While you're trying to decide if you want to send hate mail on this blog post, take a few minutes and check out my books on Amazon.  Seriously it's hard to get those great clothes he likes to see me in without you buying a book or two *winks*

Tears of Crimson - Once Upon A Book Cover

Some of you that have been following me for the last two years will have noticed a huge change in Tears of Crimson.  The newest book cover is the work of Tammie Gibbs, and Once Upon a Book Cover. So why the change?  When the professionals tell you that a change is needed, I'm always persuaded to listen! The entire series is getting this new polished look and I have to say it's exciting to watch it all unfold before my eyes.

I think the new cover gives the impression of a sexy romance read meant for adult readers and pulls it out of the YA field.  This book from the beginning was a sensual self-discovery of vampire love and it continues to grow in depth with each new release.  When people ask me to describe Tears of Crimson, I like to say imagine Twilight grown up and with real vampires that don't sparkle.  As most of friends know I'm a True Blood and Vampire Diaries junky and yes I'm a huge fan of Twilight as well.  All that being said, none of those books come close in describing the Tears of Crimson Vampire Series.

The truth is, Tears of Crimson is actually unique in every way.  Take away the fangs and it has some great Sci-Fi elements that most people who haven't read the book wouldn't have imagined.  As we move on into Eternal Crimson (which buy the way is available in Paperback and Kindle now) we delve into some pretty deep subject matter and I've had readers who don't even like vampires tell me how much they enjoyed the plot.  So you don't have to be a vampire lover, but it definitely helps.

While we're on the subject of change, if you haven't gotten the Free Kindle Update for A Night at Tears of Crimson, let me encourage you to do so.  Bryden Lloyd did a great job with the edits and the book was completely changed over to third person.  Trust me when I tell you the book is much more enjoyable with the update!  Everyone at the Writer's Pad has been so wonderful!

I'd love to know what you think about the new cover!  The second book is getting it's own redo and I'll post it here when it's ready.  If you're an author and looking for a new cover or other great promotional material, seriously talk to Once Upon A Book Cover first.  You'll be really surprised at how affordable their services are!

Calling All Women! Defying the Sheikh Discussion!

Buy Defying the Sheik $0.99 on Amazon

My new historical romance is getting some passionate reviews on Amazon and I wanted to address some key topics.  First, Defying the Sheikh is a work of fiction that takes place in the 1800's.  What's really important to understand here is that women during this era had many less choices than we do today.

Second, Michaela chose her path which may or may not be the one I would had chosen given the same situation.  Who's to say how any of us would have reacted in the 1800's when women were little more than property according to the law.  Again, refer to topic one, this is fiction.

I've read all the reviews, and while I'm flattered to see all the opinions, I must say that the reviews aren't truly about the book itself.  I've opened up my blog here for discussion in hopes of getting reviews turned back to the book and not the subject matter.

I was aware when I published this book it would cause varying degrees of emotions form women.  Personally I'm encouraged to see so many comments about how women should never be treated in such a way.  This is why we should all be thankful for the pioneers of Women's Rights for giving us such freedom to voice our opinions today.

In a final note, I would like to say that Defying the Sheikh, was born of fantasy and I stand behind the characters in this book.  While Armon may not be your view of a "Knight in Shining Armor", for Michaela she was empowered when she took over the Harem.

Share your views of "Defying the Sheikh", I love hearing form my readers!

Truly,
Michelle Hughes
